Corona has hit the world hard! Almost every country is in lockdown, and my guess is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. When Asia and Europa have overcome the crisis, we will have to turn our attention to Africa. Corona will be part of our lives for the remainder of 2020 and probably even longer, until we have found a cure.
When you listen to
politicians at the moment, they are all saying the same thing: “We will
overcome Corona, but the world will not be same after it”.
Particularly the last part of that – the world will not be the same – is loaded with a serious threat and opportunity at the same time. When the world changes, we have to change with it, as does our business. We have to adapt to the new world as a company at every level. Only those who can do that will make it.
BUT herein lies the biggest opportunity. As I see it, we have the gift of time. Major changes tend to come out of the blue, forcing you to adapt after the event.
This time it’s different. You know it’s coming. The world has been struggling with Corona for months now and will continue to do so. You and your company should have made some preparations by now. If not, you should start as soon as possible.
Obviously, if your day-to-day business is close to zero, why not use the time to rethink your business strategy? Are there changes you could make? Should you make changes? Are there any new products you should develop? Now you have the time to do so. You have nothing to lose, so get started, rethink your business and try to discover how to create an even stronger company.
Even with your core business in place, you could prepare things for “post Corona”. Compile a list of 20 potential customers you would like to do business with. Prepare a Social Media campaign to let your customers and partners know that you are open for business again.
There are always things you can do, which you have no focus on, while you are focused on your day-to-day business. Try to focus on those things for now. This will help you when the crisis is over.
The world will not be the same after Corona, so why not use this to your advantage? Be open-minded in a crisis and don’t cry into your pillow because then it will be Game Over for you even before Corona is over. Try to figure out if the product/service you offer will still be needed and at the same level as before. Hopefully, it will be, but if not, you should be prepared for this eventuality.
Let me give you an example:
I do events, mostly with companies all over Europe. I know that companies that have recently fired employees and lost millions will not be holding a summer party this year. So, my focus is not on them when I’m preparing my company for when Corona is all over. I’m looking for different types of customers and preparing my entire organisation accordingly.
You should adopt the same mindset. Consider how the world will have changed and adapt to the new reality. Make sure you, your business and your entire organisation are ready.
Don’t see Corona solely as a bad thing. Spend all the time you have preparing for a positive progression of your company. Try to spend the time rethinking your setup and preparing to come back even stronger.
